News & Updates
First, I want to thank everyone for their continued help and support throughout the last 4 years. We have turned in over $58,000 to the American Cancer Society. This could not be done without the support of our fans, friends, family and coworkers and of course, 4Wheel Drive Hardware. Our mission is still strong- Raise money for the American Cancer Society to find a cure for this horrible disease. Even though we will not be at the rock crawling competitions, we will still be out and about spreading the word about our cause. Check out our schedule to see where we will be next. Wish us luck as we start our fifth year of CRAWL TO CURE CANCER.
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013Happy New Year everyone. Our first event is Saturday, February 23rd at Lake Milton, OH - the American Cancer Society Brr for the Cure, Polar Bear Plunge. We will be jumping into a frozen lake to raise money for the ACS. Wish us luck! If you would like to donate, please visit our donate page for information on how to donate. Remember, donations will be matched at the end of the year by 4Wheel Drive Hardware!
Thursday, December 20th, 2012Wow, what a surprise. I came into work today and had an email from paypal that Ben from Hollar Crawlers Jeep club sent a donation of $261! Thank you so much for raising this money for our cause. It will help towards the donations for our next event, Brr for the Cure, Polar Bear Plunge, February 23rd, 2013.
Thursday, December 13th, 2012In 2008, Rock Crawler and 4Wheel Drive Hardware employee, Kelly Young lost her mother, Marie, to a brief battle with colon and liver cancer. Since then, Kelly has looked for ways to raise awareness and funds to benefit cancer research. Kelly and her team raised money throughout the year at various events such as Relay For Life, Bark For Life, the BRR For a Cure polar bear plunge and Jeep shows and events. All money raised was donated to the American Cancer Society. They do this with the hopes that they can play a part in helping find a cure--something that has affected everyone. From January 2012 to December 2012 they raised $13,522.80. Over the last 4 years, they raised a total of $58,814.80 for the American Cancer Society! This is a great way to remember Marie and others lost to this dreaded disease, as well as honoring the survivors!
Wednesday, September 26th, 2012Well it looks like the spammers found my email account and I am getting slammed with junk email. I had over 23,000 emails in there today. So, I deleted that account and created a new one. If you need to get a hold of me, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Monday, September 24th, 2012It is 4Wheel Drive Hardware Jamboree time. Please be sure to stop by the Crawl to Cure Cancer booth this weekend at the store in Columbiana, OH. We will be there Friday and Saturday, September 28 and 29.
Monday, August 13th, 2012We just returned from the Bantam Jeep Festival in Butler, PA. It was a great show for us. We have never ran out of clothing and have the opportunity to come back to the warehouse and get more inventory. We sold out of all of our sweatshirts and t-shirts. It was a great show! Thank you to everyone who purchased something or made a donation. It all helps with our end of the year donation. Our next event is September 28 an 29th at the 4Wheel Drive Hardware Jamboree. Please stop out for a great event!
Monday, July 23rd, 2012We just returned from the PA Jeeps show in York, PA. Huge thanks to my teammates, Selway and Jason for working this show for me. As always with the York show, we had a great sales weekend and turned in a couple hundred dollars in donations. Please be sure to visit us in August at the Bantam show, the 10-12th. As always, thank you for your continued help and support.
Wednesday, 3-14-2012I wanted to update everyone with our total number for the last 3 years. We have turned in $45,292 to the American Cancer Soceity! That is fantastic to see. This could not be possible without all of our fans, friends, family and sponsors. Thank you all so much. Here is to a great 2012! We are also getting ready to travel west to Moab, UT for the Easter Jeep Safari. We will be on the trails all week and at the expo on Thursday, April 5th and Friday, April 6th. Look for the pink flags and the pink tent and stop by and say hello. We will have a new t-shirt design to reveal at this show so make sure you stop by!
Monday, 1-9-2012Happy 2012 everyone. I wanted to give you all an update on our yearly donation. We have raised $15,019 for 2011. That makes the total money we have turned in to the American Cancer Society over $45,000! I can't believe it. I never thought when I started this program we would even come close to that amount and we did. Huge thanks to all of you, our supporters, and of course to 4Wheel Drive Hardware and TransAmerican, as well as the many sponsors I have. None of this would be possible without everyone's continued help and support! Here's to a great 2012!
Thursday, 11-17-2011Wow - it has been a long time since I posted, I apologize for that. Things have been crazy busy. We have completed our 7th year of competition, finishing 3rd for the series. I also made the decision that this is our last year of competition and I have since sold the rig. After 7 years of 14+ hours drives to get anywhere and being gone every weekend from April to September, it has taken its toll. The rig is sold, bills paid off, I am moving onto the next part of my life and building a house. I do still plan to keep Crawl to Cure Cancer alive - this is something I am very passionate about. I also will get back into Jeeps, buy and build something I can still wheel and drive everyday. We're also getting close to our year end donation. It looks we will have another year of over $15k donated. If we do, that will mean we raised over $45,000 in 3 years! That is awesome and I could not do any of this without the help and support of my team, my sponsors and of course my fans! Thank you.
Monday, 8-22-2011It looks like our schedule has cleaned up for the rest of the year. If you can think of a show or event we should attend, let us know. In the meantime, the rig is still for sale. It has over $49k parts on it and I'm asking $18k or best offer. http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=992072
Wednesday, 8-10-2011This weekend is the Bantam Jeep event in Butler, PA. Stop by the pink Crawl to Cure Cancer tent and say hi! And maybe buy some clothing or make a donation. Hope to see you there!
Tuesday, 7-26-2011We're back from the Badlands with a 4th place finish. No roll overs, no damage and nothing broken...so it was a good weekend. This was our last competition of the year. I have decided to retire from competitions. After 7 years of 12+ hours to get to an event, it has run its course. I will still be doing Crawl to Cure Cancer - that is still something I am very passoniate about. You can see us at our next event, August 12-14 at the Butler, PA fairgrounds. Look for the pink Crawl to Cure Cancer tent.
Thursday, 7-21-2011We're getting ready to go to our next competition. We leave tomorrow AM for The Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, IN. Last weekend we were in York, PA for the All Breeds Jeep Show. It was an awesome. time. We sold almost all of our shirts and raised over $300 in donations. Thanks to everyone who stopped by for their support! Look for our update next week when we return from the Badlands!
Monday, 6-27-2011We're back from our second competition. This one was in Hannibal, MO. It was a tough weekend and the courses were just as tough. It rained all day Saturday so that just made the courses a muddy mess. We only finished 2 out of our 8 courses and ended up finishing in 5th place for the weekend. But we didn't roll or break anything, so that in itself is a good weekend. We will be in York PA, the weekend of July 16th and then the weekend after that is our 3rd competition at the Badlands in Attica, IN. If you plan to attend either of these events, stop by and say hello.
Wednesday, 5-18-2011We just got back from our first competition of 2011. That means our busy, hectic summer is about to start. We were in Dayton, TN for the season opener of WeRock Eastern Series. The courses were tough and all of us stock mod competitors kept the scores close all weekend. We ended up finishing in 3rd place and the jeep isn't broken, so all in all, it was a good weekend. We travel to upper New York in a few weeks for the Nemer Extreme Off Road event. Should be a good time. If you're up that way, stop by and say hi. You can't miss the pink tent!
Wednesday, 3-23-2011Well, it's been a long time since I wrote last. My jeep is currently in pieces. I take it over to my buddy Matt Peters to look over everything with a fine tooth comb. Let me tell you - he found a TON of stuff wrong with it. All ball joints need replaced, tie rod ends need replaced, all suspension bushings...just to name a few. Once we get it back, we will have a few more things to do on our own but it's nothing we can't handle. My team and I, along with members from 4WD, participated in the American Cancer Society's Polar Bear Plunge on March 5th. Our team turned in the most money, $2,400! Thanks to everyone for their help and support on this. Next up for us, besides getting the Jeep back, we're heading to Moab, UT April 14th for the annual Easter Jeep Safari event. If you're going to be out there, stop by our pink tent and say hi!
Thursday, 1-13-2011Happy New Year everyone! Not a whole lot to report yet. The rig is in the garage. We fixed a pesky steering line and took it out in the snow for some after work fun. We have a few more things to fix before we are 100% ready for this year. I am very pleased to announce we just picked up Truck-Lite as a sponsor for this year. They are sending us a set of their bad-ass LED headlights. These will work perfect for us this year, since 3 out of 4 WeRock events are at night this year. Huge thanks to Truck-Lite for their help and support!
Wednesday, 12-22-2010I'm very pleased to announce how much money we raised this year for Team 311's Crawl to Cure Cancer program. Throughout 2010, we traveled all over the USA to various shows and events, where we sold our merchandise and brought in donations for our cause. Our total donation from our team in 2010 to the American Cancer Society is $15,902! Thank you everyone so much for your help and support in this great cause. We couldn't make this happen without our fellow Jeepers helping spread the word!
Tuesday, 10-26-2010We're done for the year with shows and events. We pulled the computer out of the Jeep to send to the folks at Howell Engineering to reflash for us. Other than that, not much else going on. Just going to spend the winter trying to get as much seat time as possible. I do have something great to announce. So far, year to date, we have raised $5,902! I want to see if we can get to $6k - so we need your help! That is what we have brought in for donations. So, 4WD will match that, so we're sitting at $11,804 - and that's not including the t-shirt sales. So, please help us beat last year. There are 4 ways to donate, just visit our donate page for more details. Thanks for your help and support.
Thursday, 9-23-2010We're back from the Indianapolis Jamboree Nationals event. Wow what a show. We sold pretty much everything we took. Almost $9k in shirt sales and brought in just over $500 in donations. Thanks to everyone who stopped by at the show and supported our cause. Our season is winding down, but the support is still pouring in.
Wednesday, 9-1-2010Our 2010 WeRock rock crawling season is over. We just came back from Dayton, TN, where we ended up finishing in 4th place at the event and overall for the series. Thanks to everyone for the support you have given us throughout the year. We have a few more events/shows planned to end the year - see our schedule for more information. I want to thank my team, Aaron and Jason. Aaron is my spotter. We’ve been together for the last 4 years. I love him to death and couldn’t imagine having another spotter. I know we have our differences and argue at times but he’s one of my best friends and I couldn’t do this without him. Jason is our alternate spotter, parts runner, mechanic…you name it, he does it. Anything I need, he does without hesitation. We put in a lot of hours in the garage, all winter and in between events. It’s a lot of work, but we all do it with no complaints. I couldn’t ask for a better team. You guys make this easy and fun. I promise we’ll get a podium finish next year. Of course, I have to thank my sponsors. First and foremost, 4Wheel Drive Hardware and TransAmerican. You guys are and have been behind me since day 1, 6 years ago! I take up so much time and space in the garage, days off to go to events etc I definitely could not do any of this without your help and support! And it’s my other sponsors that make sure I have what I need to get to each event and make sure the rig has the parts it needs to stay running. Some of you have been with me for all 6 years, some of you I just picked up this year. Regardless, I truly appreciate all the help and support you all have given me.
Tuesday, 7-27-2010We just got back from Hannibal, MO WeRock competition. We finished in 4th place. I'm working on the write up now. but I also wanted to let you all know we just added Crawl to Cure Cancer tank tops. Check them out here: http://www.4wd.com/jeep-parts/new-jeep-products.aspx
Monday, 7-19-2010We're back from the York show. We had a great time and sold a lot of shirts. We sold 256 shirts and brought in $310 in donations. The people who attend this show are awesome. They welcome us with open arms and give us such great support. Thank you everyone for your support at this show. It is greatly appreciated!
Tuesday, 7-13-2010We're heading to York, PA this weekend for the PA Jeeps All Breeds Jeep Show. This weekend is York and next weekend is Hannibal. If you see our pink tent or the pink jeep, stop by and say hi!
Monday, 7-12-2010Sorry for the delay since my last reply. We had a competition June 25-26 in Dayton, TN. We had a great time and had one of our best competitions. We were able to finish 8 out of our 10 courses and the only damage was a broken steering box. We finished the comp in a 3rd place tie. But the rules state, in the event of a tie-breaker, they take the score from your first course. In this case, we techincally finished in 4th place. Next competition is July 24 and 25th in Hannibal, MO. Hope to see you there!
Friday, 6-18-2010Well we just picked up a new team mate. Carrie N. Hope is a teddy bear from the American Cancer Society. People pass him around and take him on trips, take pictures and write stories about him. He's now in our possession. We will be taking him to the competition next weekend and he will be riding in the passenger seat. I have a pair of goggles for him and I'm trying to find him a helmet. Look for pics on our facebook page.
Monday, 6-14-2010Thanks to Kelly and the crew from Infamous 4x4 crew for their help and support for our cause. They are selling our gear at their shows and giving us part of their 50/50 raffle! And they just gave us a $100 donation! You guys rock!
Wednesday, 6-9-2010Thanks to Muddy Buddys Jeep Club for inviting us to their Jeep Jam this past weekend. We had a great time and sold a ton of shirts. Thanks again to the club and everyone for their support!
Tuesday, 6-8-2010Sorry, it's been a while since I updated everyone on what we have been working on. We had our first competition May 22nd. We broke a lot of stuff, flopped the rig on it's side, but we were still able to bring home a 4th place finish. To read our write-up, you can check it out here. You can also watch a short video of our weekend here. The jeep is back in the garage getting ready for our next competition in Dayton, TN. June 25-26.
Thursday, 4-29-2010NEW GEAR ADDED - we just added pink hoodies and a beanie to our merchandise line. Check them out here
Thursday, 4-8-2010We just got back from the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT. The rig didn't get to go, it's still tore apart in the garage waiting for parts. We still set up our booth to sell our clothing and we did very well. We sold over $3,000 in merchandise and raised $190 in our donation jar. Huge thanks to everyone who purchased our merchandise and all of the praise and support we received from the show. It is grealy appreciated and thank you for helping us spread the word.
Tuesday, 1-12-2010Recently, I was contacted by a lady named Ashley from CT. Ashley has a super rare cancer called Carney-Stratakis dyad. We have been chatting back and forth about her treatments and how she's been feeling. I get emails like this from time to time and each one I hold close to my heart. It is people like Ashley (and my mom) that made Team 311 decide to do what we are doing. Talking with Ashley brightens everyone's spirit and helps you realize that the world is much larger than the issues with the rig, work or personal life. We're proud to have Ashley and everyone else as fans and supporters and look forward to meeting and hearing your story. If anyone has a story they want to share with me, please feel free to send me an email: email@example.com Together, we can fight the good fight!
Tuesday, 1-5-2010Happy New Year everyone. I am very pleased to announce how much money we raised this year for Team 311's Crawl to Cure Cancer program. Throughout 2009, we turned in $4,738 to the American Cancer Society. 4Wheel Drive Hardware is matching that AND giving us 100% of the proceeds from our t-shirt sales, which is another $4,895! So total donation from our team for 2009...$14,371! Thank you everyone so much for your help and support in this great cause. We couldn't make this happen without our fellow Jeepers helping spread the word!
Tuesday, 1-5-2010Check out our schedule page. It has been updated. Not many events on there yet, but keep checking back. I will add more events throughout the year. If you have a suggestion for an event, please hit me up via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Monday, 9-21-2009So I have been slacking but I want to give you all an update. I have 2 groups of people to send a huge thank you to. First, KBG 4Wheelers. Thank you so much for your very generous donation. It is helping us get closer to our goal of $10,000. I also want to send a huge thank you to Kim and Mike Devore and the entire 4Wheel Parts crew from Indy. At their Jamboree this past weekend, they sold our shirts for us and raised over $2k for our cause. I need to get an overall total so far for everything, donations, plus shirt sales, but so far we have hit over $5k. With the match, that puts us over the $10k mark! Thank you so much to everyone for their generosity and making this happen. I know my mom is smiling down on us!
Monday, 8-24-2009We were at Jeepfest in New Castle, PA this weekend. We had a great turn out. We took 65 shirts to sell and came back with 3! We brought in $100 in donations and $1200 in t-shirt sales. I'm turning in $1120 that we raised so far this summer! We're leaving Friday this week for the All Stock Nationals in Hannibal, MO August 29-30. I hope to see you there cheering us on.
Tuesday, 8-4-2009Back from our Dayton, TN WeRock competition. What an event this was. It was the first time we competed under the lights. And the fans in Dayton are off the chart! We had people coming up to us at the event and handing up money for our cause. We raised $350 at this competition. We have 3 weeks to go over the Jeep before the All Stock Nationals in Hannibal, MO August 29-30. I hope to see you there cheering us on.
Monday, 7-27-2009We just got back from the 4Wheel Drive Hardware Truck and Jeep Fest in Canfield, OH. We had a great show and an awesome turn out. We sold over $3k in t-shirts for the weekend and raised just shy of $200 from our donation jar. Thank you to everyone for your donations and purchasing our shirts and stickers - we could not do this without everyone's support.
Monday, 7-20-2009We just got back from the PA Jeeps All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA. What a great show! Thank you to everyone for your donations and purchasing our shirts and stickers. I am very happy to report we raised just over $300 in donations and sold $2300 in t-shirts! Thanks again - we could not do this without everyone's support.
Thursday, 6-11-2009I also want to update everyone on the donations we have brought in so far. We have raised just over $2,000 and with the 4Wheel Drive Hardware company match, that puts us just over $4000! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far and those who plan to. This is such a great cause and I'm so glad we're all a part of it!
Thursday, 6-11-09Well, since our last update we had our second competition in Hannibal, MO. I would love to be able to report better news than the first event, but I can't. We broke a lot of parts: front driveshaft, rear brake line, rear brake caliper bracket and a power steering box. To top off our horrible weekend, we flopped the rig on it's side on the last course! There goes the nice pretty paint job :( The Jeep is currently in the garage tore apart getting repaired as we speak. Our next competition is in 2 weeks at Rausch Creek Off Road Park in Joliet, PA. Hope to see you there!
Tuesday, 5-5-09Our new shirts are here! All proceeds from the shirts will be given to the Crawl to Cure Cancer cause. Check them out on 4wd.com!
Thursday, 5-1-2009Well we just got back from our first competition. I wish I had better news to report but it was not our weekend. We finished our first course on Saturday and noticed we were leaking tranny fluid pretty bad. So we took the access panels out and saw about a 1/2" gap between the tranny and the adapter. So we thought it just needed tightened up...only to take it all apart to find it was stripped. So we worked on it from 10:30 until 5 putting it together, taking it apart and getting a tap, tapping the holes deeper and using longer bolts. So we ran the one course and that was it on Saturday.
Sunday we started out great, -1 on the first course. The second course, only one person finished it, because he started first and everyone else dug holes, so we didn't come close to finishing it. The third course, we were just about to make the turn to the finish - broke a front driveshaft... I tried moving the jeep as much as possible to clear the gates, but we were bound so bad, the rig wasn't moving at all. We replaced the driveshaft and finished the last course with a 2.
The Jeep is DONE! It's been done - I'm just a slacker when it comes to writing updates ;) We took it out last night to test it on the rocks behind 4WD. Everything seems to be in working order. It looks so naked without my sponsor stickers (those are coming next week). Our first event is in less than 3 weeks. We have a lot more seat time to get in before then.
Not much to report. We are almost done with the jeep. A lot of wiring and loose ends to tie up. Our first competition is fast approaching, we spend as much time as possible in the garage. The above picture is the current state the jeep is in. Look for more updates as the weeks go by.
Our first step in this journey was to replace the body of the Jeep with a newer one from Davey's Jeeps. Once we stripped the body tub of all unnecessary parts, and cut out what we didn't need, Line-X was nice enough to donate their new LINE-X XTRA to our project. By spraying both the interior and underside of the body, Team 311 will keep the "Crawl to Cure Cancer" Jeep protected for a long time. We can't begin to tell you how happy we are with how the Line-X spray on bed liner came out! Don't take our word for it, come and see it for yourself at one of the events we will be heading out to this year.
